The Gagarin lesson will be held in Russia and Abroad on the “International Day of Cosmonautics”

On April 12, International Cosmonautics Day, the Gagarin lesson “Space is us” will be held with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo. This year, classes will be held in a remote format, many students in Russia and abroad will “sit at their desks” in their homes.

   The main theme of this year's lesson is dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War “From Victory in the Great Patriotic War – to Victories in Space”. The children will be told about the cosmonauts participating in the Great Patriotic War, about the cosmonauts who survived the war years, about how the Gagarin family lived during the occupation.

   In 2020, the Gagarin lesson will be devoted to several important dates in the history of Cosmonautics: the 60th Anniversary of the Cosmonaut Corps, the 55th Anniversary of the first man’s exit into open space, and the 65th Anniversary of the Baikonur Cosmodrome. School Children will be told about the Lunokhod-1 mission (the world's first remotely controlled self-propelled vehicle), and about the connection of cosmonauts Vladimir Dzhanibekov and Viktor Savinykh with Salyut-7 station. Participants of the lesson will also learn about the Pilots -Cosmonauts of the USSR, Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Pavel Romanovich Popovich and Hero of the Soviet Union Yuri Petrovich Artyukhin, who would have turned 90 this year.

   The Gagarin lesson was first held 5 years ago on April 12, 2016, on the 55th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's space flight. Educational action was supported by the family of Yuri Gagarin, the Russian Union of journalists, the Foundation for promoting manned space exploration “Space is Us” - State Corporation for outer space activities “Rosatom”, Space Research Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Physical Institute. P. N. Lebedev, the Russian Academy of Sciences (LPI RAS), Museum of cosmonautics in Moscow, The United Memorial Museum of Yuri Gagarin (Gagarin, Smolensk region), The State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics named after K. E. Tsiolkovsky (Kaluga).

   Since 2017, with the assistance of Rossotrudnichestvo and the World Congress of Compatriots, the Gagarin lesson “Space is Us” is held annually in 100 countries of the world.

   As part of the Gagarin lesson, the “Hero's Desk” campaign will continue in 2020: 5 honorary “Hero's Desks” of Space will be installed in Russia and abroad.
